Guildhall Glows with Strength on International Women’s Day

On 7th March, the FWIN team had the privilege of joining Women Centre Derry at the Guildhall to mark International Women’s Day 2025. The event brought together organisations from across the city dedicated to supporting those affected by domestic and sexual abuse. It was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when community groups, service providers, and advocates unite with a common purpose: to ensure that no woman has to navigate trauma alone.

The energy in the room was both sobering and hopeful. Sobering—because the need for these services continues to grow. Hopeful—because the commitment to change is stronger than ever. Stalls filled the Guildhall showcasing the essential work being done in Derry and beyond: crisis support, counselling, advocacy, legal guidance, housing assistance, and community-based programmes aimed at prevention and empowerment.

At the FWIN table, we spoke with women of all ages—many of whom were seeking information, sharing their own experiences, or simply expressing solidarity. We highlighted our ongoing work tackling violence against women and girls, and encouraged visitors to engage with our programmes, whether for themselves or someone they care about.

International Women’s Day is not just about celebrating progress—it’s also about naming the issues that persist. Events like this are vital because they create visibility. They remind us that behind every statistic is a person. A story. A survivor. And a community ready to rally behind them.

We’re proud to have stood alongside our friends at Women Centre Derry and so many incredible organisations who are doing the work day in and day out. If you or someone you know needs support, please know that there is help available—and a network of women who believe you, stand with you, and are fighting for a safer, more just future.
