Clare’s Law — Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS)

    • Gives people the right to know if their current or ex-partner has any previous history of violence or abuse

    • You can request information from the PSNI about your current or ex partner

    • You can also request information about the current or ex-partner of a close friend, relative, or neighbor

      • If you are requesting information on someone else’s behalf, you may not necessarily receive disclosure personally

  • Right to Ask:

    • You have the right to ask about your current/ ex partners previous history of violence or abuse regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, gender identity, or other characteristic if you are over 16

    Right to Know

    • The PSNI may decide to proactively share information with you if they believe you are at future risk (i.e. if someone else applied about your partner/ ex partner)
