Other Criminal Charges

If filing for Domestic Abuse is not an option there are other legal actions you can take

domestic abuse experienced before 21st of February 2022 does not fall under the Domestic Abuse and Civil Proceedings Act, but can still fall under a variety of other laws

Listed below are example behaviors and the laws they fall under:

  • Non-fatal strangulation, common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, attempted murder

  • Criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, threatening or abusive behavior

  • Harassment (behavior must occur on at least two occasions)

  • Rape, indecent assault, harassment, living off immoral earnings

  • Stalking (behavior must occur on at least two occasions), threatening or abusive behavior, harassment

  • Stalking, threatening or abusive behavior

  • Kidnap, blackmail, false imprisonment, common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, rape, indecent assault

  • Criminal damage aggravated burglary (defendent enters as a trespasser with intent to steal, inflict grievous bodily harm, rape or do unlawful damage), breach of occupation order or non-molestation order

  • Criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, cruelty to animals, harassment, threatening or abusive behavior

  • Stalking, threatening or abusive behavior

  • False imprisonment, harassment, threatening or abusive behavior

  • Child cruelty

  • Improper use of public telecommunication systems, malicious communications, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, stalking, harassment, threatening or abusive behavior

  • Harassment, threatening or abusive behavior, blackmail

  • Harassment, threatening or abusive behavior

  • Common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, wounding, attempted murder

  • Witness intimidation, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice

  • False imprisonment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm

  • False imprisonment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm

  • False imprisonment, kidnapping, harassment

  • Sending unwanted sexual images, threatening to disclose sexual images

  • Threats to kill, harassment, threatening or abusive behaviour.

  • Threats to kill, common assault possession of an offensive weapon (if in a public place), threatening or abusive behavior

  • Common assault, threatening or abusive behaviour

  • Common assault, criminal damage

  • Common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment

  • Murder, manslaughter

  • Child destruction, procuring a miscarriage or abortion
