The Getting Together Club is Back!
The G+T Club returned this month and we really hit the ground running with it! We had a very successful turnout for our first Getting Together Club meetup. Our first session focused on finding out what you wanted to see happen at our youth club for recycled teenages. We focused on 4 main areas - Health & wellbeing, information, trips, and crafts. The ladies were just brimming with ideas!
We got some great ideas for upcoming Getting Together Club sessions like:
✨ Storytelling workshops
✨ Menopause advice
✨ Health checks
✨ Pension & benefits information
✨ Support with transport, mobility aids, etc
✨ Phone and computer classes
✨ Scam awareness and protection
We are also looking at different crafting workshops like pebble art, flower arranging, jewelry making... and many more wonderful ideas!
We also had Mitch the Crime Prevention Officer from Police Derry City & Strabane come to speak to the lovely ladies in our Getting Together Club.
The session was so informative helping us to understand what scams to watch out for and how to keep us and our loved ones safe.
The ladies had lots of questions about how to spot scams, protecting our personal information, using social media, online banking, and personal safety but Mitch was well prepared to answer them all! Everyone left with a variety of flyers, personal alarms, detection pens, and even a safety light for their home.
Then to wrap up our first month of G+T Club meetups, the ladies joined our newest team member, Anna, and our intern, Mila, for a really lovely patchwork quilt inspired "getting to know you" session.
Each of the ladies thoughtfully created their own piece of the quilt with things about their lives that were important to them.
The conversations were flowing, and there was lots of laughter. It was great fun to sit back with a cuppa and a wee bun and just have some relaxing fun doodling and colouring in together. Then, we all had the opportunity to talk about what we'd drawn on our quilt patches and wow, the ladies just blew us away!
We were joined by different women, from different walks of life, who shared different experiences - but as we all shared, we learned that we all have more in common than we think. We're all a part of a beautiful tapestry that makes up our city's culture and history.
So we hope today marks the start of some beautiful friendships for our G+T Club ladies because you all hold a special place in our hearts here at FWIN!
