Marking 20 Years of Service: Catherine Cooke’s Dedication at FWIN

On November 1st 2024, FWIN proudly celebrates Catherine Cooke’s 20th anniversary as our Coordinator. Since joining in 2004, Catherine has been a steadfast advocate for our members, creating programs, resources, and a welcoming space where women across the North West can thrive. Her dedication over two decades has empowered countless women to connect, grow, and find support within our community.

From Activism to Leadership

Catherine’s career in community work spans over 30 years, beginning in the late 1980s as a grassroots activist. Before joining FWIN, she worked as a training officer with the Peace and Reconciliation Group, focusing on conflict resolution and community-building. Her experience has been the cornerstone of her work at FWIN, where she has created programs to support education, skill-building, and women’s health.

Under her leadership, FWIN has evolved into a trusted resource for women seeking support, personal growth, and connections in Northern Ireland. Catherine’s approach has always been rooted in understanding the real challenges women face, ensuring that FWIN’s initiatives are practical, compassionate, and community-centered.

Advocacy and Broader Impact

Catherine’s influence extends beyond her work with FWIN. She serves on various boards, including APEX Housing and the North West Peace IV Partnership, and chairs the Derry and Strabane Peace Plus Partnership. Her advocacy has even led her to speak at the United Nations Security Council on the specific issues facing women in conflict areas.

Locally, Catherine is a strong advocate for inclusion, anti-sectarianism, and social justice. Her dedication to creating safe, inclusive spaces is felt throughout the community and has made FWIN a respected leader in women’s advocacy.

A Thank You for Two Decades of Dedication

On this special anniversary, FWIN extends heartfelt gratitude to Catherine for her 20 years of service. Her commitment, vision, and unwavering support have made a lasting difference to FWIN and to the lives of countless women.

We are incredibly fortunate to have her at the helm and look forward to many more years of her guidance.
