FWIN Welcomes Northern Ireland Affairs Committee

Last week, we were honoured to welcome members of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee to FWIN. Their visit offered a valuable opportunity to share the work we’ve been doing to eliminate violence against women and girls—and to ensure that grassroots voices are heard at the highest levels of government.

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee is a cross-party parliamentary group that examines the UK Government’s work in Northern Ireland. Its members play an important role in influencing policy and ensuring that key issues—like gender-based violence—are not overlooked in Westminster.

During their visit, we had a powerful and honest conversation. We spoke about the successes we’ve seen through community-led action: delivering our EVAWG Programme, supporting survivors, and building safer spaces for women across the North West. But we also highlighted the ongoing challenges—underfunding, limited access to services, and the cultural stigma that continues to silence so many.

It was clear that the Committee came to listen. They asked thoughtful questions, engaged with our team’s insights, and showed a real willingness to understand the complexities of this issue on the ground.

Having our work recognised at a national level is deeply encouraging. But more importantly, it reminds us why we do this: to amplify the voices of women whose stories deserve to shape the future.

As always, FWIN remains committed to tackling violence against women and girls through advocacy, education, and collective action. We’re grateful to the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee for their visit—and we look forward to continuing the conversation in the weeks and months ahead.
